Lunch at the Historic Blessing Hotel

A few weeks ago, Paula and I were talking about places to eat around Palacios, and she asked me if I had ever been to Hotel Blessing. When I told her that I had not, she reacted as if I had just admitted to the worst faux pas. So, we decided to go!

For anyone staying at The Peaceful Pelican (or visiting the area) who loves history, charm, and a good home-cooked meal, you’ll find all of that and more at Hotel Blessing.

On the outside, the building didn’t look like much to me. But when you take the first step inside, it’s like jumping into the Delorean from “Back to the Future”! The length of the main hallway is lined with antiques ranging from grand couches, basins, vanities, and interesting historical photographs. I think I wound up spending almost as much time admiring the quaint furnishings and decor as I did the meal!

To get to the good stuff, you have to go all the way to the end of the hall. As I entered the dining room, the waft of yeast rolls and bacon-drenched green beans slapped my face – in a very good way! Now, I must say that we did wind up going around 1pm, so while there were plenty of good eats left, I can imagine that if you go when they start at 11am that it’s EVEN BETTER!

The buffet includes a variety of buttery veggies, a spattering of meats including chicken and roast, mashed potatoes, rolls, cornbread, salad with all the fixins, a variety of dressings, and brownies and peach cobbler to finish off your feast. Mmmm…

Don’t forget to take your cash! They don’t accept credit cards. But the service, decor, and food is well worth the trip!

You can find them at:
